Permanent Christmas Lights in St. Augustine: What to Know Before December

By Ellowitz Electric South · October 27, 2026

Permanent roofline lights glowing red and green on a two-story home at night while a lift raises the installer to the gable

Every year the same thing happens. Thanksgiving ends, the boxes come down from the attic, half the strands don’t light, and someone spends a Saturday on a ladder. Permanent Christmas lights end that routine for good.

The lights go up once, stay on your roofline all year, and change color from your phone. In December they are red and green. The rest of the year they can be warm white accent lighting, or whatever the next holiday calls for.

How Permanent Christmas Lights Work

A permanent system is a slim track that mounts under your eaves and along the roofline. The LED lights sit inside the track, so from the street you see the shape of your house at night, not a row of bulbs and wire.

Everything runs from an app. You pick the color, the brightness and the pattern, set a schedule so the lights come on at dusk, and change it all in seconds. The system we install is Jellyfish lighting, built for outdoor use all year.

Why They Make Sense on the First Coast

Our winters are mild, but the ladder work is the same, and so is the risk. Two-story homes and steep gables are common in St. Augustine and Nocatee, and the highest peaks are exactly where people want lights.

Salt air is the other reason. Seasonal strands and clips left outside near the coast corrode fast. A permanent system is built for outdoor use, and a careful install keeps water and salt away from the connections. That matters on Anastasia Island, in Vilano Beach and anywhere near the A1A corridor.

What the Installation Involves

We start by walking your roofline with you and talking about the look you want. Some homes light every gable. Others light only the front and the garage, then add the back patio later.

Then we plan where the track runs and where the power comes from. The lights need a proper power supply, and on some homes that means a new outlet or circuit near the roofline. Because we are licensed electricians, we handle that part too, and the whole system is done by one crew.

On install day we mount the track, wire the controller, connect the lights and test every zone. Before we leave, we set up the app with you and show you how to pick colors and build a schedule.

HOA Rules in Nocatee and Other Communities

Many neighborhoods have rules about exterior lighting, and Nocatee is one of them. Permanent lighting tends to fit well because the track blends into the trim, and warm white looks like ordinary accent lighting from the street.

Read your HOA guidelines before you book. If there are limits on colors or the hours lights can run, the app can follow them on a schedule. We are happy to help you plan a layout that fits. Our Nocatee page covers the other work we do there.

When to Book for the Holidays

Most people start thinking about holiday lights in November, when everyone else does. If you want red and green on the roofline by mid-December, ask for a quote early so we can get your home on the schedule.

You don’t have to wait for the holidays either. Plenty of homeowners install in spring or summer, enjoy warm white all year, and simply switch colors when December comes around.

Common Questions

Can I still use the lights after Christmas? Yes. Most people run warm white on a nightly schedule, then switch colors for the Fourth of July, Halloween or game days.

Do the lights stay up all year? Yes. The track stays mounted under your eaves, and you control the lights from the app.

Can you add power where the lights need it? Yes. If there is no outlet near the roofline, we add one as part of the job. See our residential electrical services for the rest of what we do.
